Welcome to Old Basing Scout Group
Old Basing Scout Group has been providing #SkillsForLife to young people since 1922. Much has changed over the past 100 years, and Old Basing Scout Group now caters for over 130 young people aged 6-14. Based in the village of Old Basing, we have two Beaver Colonies, two Cub Packs and a Scout Troop – each meeting every week during term time to give our young people a varied programme of activities. This ranges from cooking on open fires to night hikes, craft to pioneering and sports to DIY. We aim to give each young person the chance to learn #SkillsForLife and to make friends as they move from Beavers, starting aged 6, moving on through Cubs and joining Scouts until they’re 14.
As well as our weekly meetings, we aim to provide a range of exciting events throughout the year to help develop the young people’s skills, and to have fun with their friends. We enjoy lots of camping, from sleepovers indoors, to camping on Scouting campsites and also survival challenges on greenfield sites. This gives the young people to progress their skills as they benefit from a range of nights away experiences. We also offer lots of organised trips such as Paulton’s Park, Fright Night and Skills Days. You can see the fun for yourself in the ‘Gallery’ section.
We’re passionate about bringing more young people in to the fun of Scouting. If you have a child who would be interested in joining one of our Sections (Beavers, Cubs or Scouts), you can send your details using the ‘Join’ section. To help make Scouting possible, and to bring the range of exciting activities to the young people, we rely on the support of adults. This can be in a whole range of roles which can be tailored to suit your skills, experience and time commitments. If you’d like to know more about getting involved as an adult volunteer, please contact us.
